Rafting in Ganges
Ganges or Ganga, is the most worshipped River in India. It is named after Hindu Goddess Ganga and its waters are considered to be most sacred. When one travels to Uttarakhand, you realise how much the Ganga is part of lives of millions of Indians who reside along its course. A popular destination for River Runners and Kayakers worldwide, the Ganga originates from the Gangotri Glacier in the Garhwal Region of Himalayas and flows about 200 km before entering the plains at Rishikesh.
Along its course, the Ganga is fed by many rivers also originating from the Glaciers, namely, Laxman Ganga, Nandakini, Mandakini, Bhagirathi, Pindar, Alaknanda and a host of smaller rivers which confluence at various points in their descent to finally form the Ganga at Devprayag. Here onwards till Rishikesh, a river stretch of 70 km, is one of the most exhilarating and safest stretches for White Water Rafting in India, both for amateur and seasoned river runners. The rapids vary from Grade II to Grade V, which need an expert team to negotiate, with proper training in river techniques and safety procedures.
